Designer Eyewear

There are two types of designer eyewear.

There are fashion brands such as Oakley, Chanel, Cartier and Prada. Companies like Chanel contract major Italian frame manufacturers such as Luxottica and Safilo to design, manufacture, and distribute their product under licence.

Then there are frame designer brands. These are brands owned by people who actually design frames. Examples are Lafont, Booth and Bruce, and Lindburg. Unless you are a real designer eyewear aficionado you probably haven’t even heard of them.

How much do brands matter with reading glasses?

Try this test on your friends. See how many glasses brands they can name in 30 seconds.

I’ve tried this test dozens of times and most struggle to name more than six.

There are literally thousands of frame brands on the market.

Some will surprise you: Caterpillar Heavy earth moving equipment, Hallmark gift cards, Hush Puppy shoes and even Yahoo! have their own range of frames.

Even if you buy a brand there is no guarantee of quality. Click here to discover the truth about the frame manufacturing industry if you dare.

The branding on optical frames is usually very subtle, so no one will know you are wearing particular brand.

Buying a brand name is usually no guarantee of exceptional quality.

Save your self a fortune and just buy a frame that you like.

To familarize yourself with some high fashion designer reading glasses I would recommend Readinstyle.com, an online reading glasses boutique.
