Prescription Eye Glasses

Should you be wearing prescription eye glasses or will magnifiers work for you?

Here is a rough guide you can use.

Magnifiers will be good if:

The difference in spherical power between your eyes is 0.50 or less.

Your maximum cylinder power is – 0.50 or less.

Magnifiers will work moderately well if:

The difference in spherical power between you eyes 1.25 or less.

Your maximum cylinder power is 1.50 or less.

If you are outside this range then it is hardly worth your while bothering. Just go for prescribed glasses.

Having said this, we are all delightfully individual. I have known sensitive souls who get blinding headaches if their 0.50 of astigmatism is not properly corrected. I also know accountants who look at spreadsheets all day with 2.00 of astigmatism uncorrected and breeze through without any strain.
